From 3 to Sunday 9 March, the municipality's hotel and catering trade is offering special menus in 27 restaurants.
Next week 27 restaurants of Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa celebrate the II edition of the "Arroces de Torrevieja", which will offer from Monday 3 to Sunday 9 March numerous modalities of this dish "star" of the local gastronomy, as it was considered yesterday at the presentation of the event, carried out in the Tourism Centre of the city, in an act starring the board of the Hospitality Association of Torrevieja and Region, as well as the mayor of Hospitality and Tourism Luis Maria Pizana, as the initiative is organized by the Association itself, with the collaboration of the City Council.
The price per course will include a main course, as well as starters, drink and dessert, at a price that will vary, depending on the day and the establishment, between 20 and 28 euros, VAT included, a range that gives more flexibility to the restaurateurs to set the price, which last year was 22.50 euros per unit. In addition, two more restaurants have been incorporated than in last year's edition. Details can be found on the association's website (www.torreviejagastronomica.com).
Among the varieties that can be tasted are the "Señoret" rice; the caldero; rice and octopus; with ear; with cod and spinach; with oxtail and rovellons (milk cap mushrooms); with rabbit and foie; truffled rice with Iberian prey; monkfish with clams; with rabbit and snails; rice and lobster; rice and cuttlefish; "a banda"; with anchovies; and a long etcetera, up to 189 types.
José Antonio Lozano, president of the hoteliers, stressed that, "for this price, it is a unique offer in the province", and argued that, together with the "Jornadas de la Cazuelica y el Vino", held recently, this new initiative opens the annual calendar of the association, which this year has drawn up a programme of events for the whole of 2014 that was already presented at the International Tourism Fair in Madrid last month.
Pizana stressed the global importance of this type of product for tourism in the city, and also urged the businessmen to join, individually, the Integral System of Tourist Quality in Destination, which is being promoted by Turespaña, with the support of the Valencian government and the City Council itself for both the public and private sectors.
